Spotted this feature on the Handmade (Aug 2010) Issue of Wallpaper* – a leather iPad case and a matching zip-up headphone holder by Hermès, created for the magazine.
The iPad envelope is made of two layers of Swift calfskin, hand saddle-stitched over a layer of padding to protect the treasure within, while the headphone case is lined with goatskin.
Both cases are in ‘Rouge Hermès’-coloured Swift calfskin. Hermès has a special orders atelier above its 24 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré store in Paris.

it boggles me that a lot of special orders come in swift. it’s not the prettiest and certainly not the most durable of Hermès leathers. with its texture somewhat like fondant (you know, the one used in cakes), it gets dirty easily and scratches easily. true, it takes in colors nicely but that’s that.
if I was granted to place a special order (which I don’t think will happen anytime soon), I will ask for barenia. Or chevré/boxcalf if I wanted some color.
Very nice. I’m pretty sure I won’t be getting one for my iPad.I agree with Allan though regarding Swift after seeing and feeling it IRL.
Anyway, you already have your August issue of Wallpaper? I’m still waiting for mine and it usually arrives really late. Sometimes, not at all.
Yeah, it arrived yesterday. I normally get it 2-3 weeks before the issue hits the newsstands. It only happened once that an issue got lost, they replaced it. Turns out the first one sent was super delayed so in the end I had two of the same issue – the Lagerfeld/Starck guest editors issue. So I have one of each specially designed cover.
I can’t wait to see the cover I “designed”. I probably won’t receive it until mid or late August. I guess because it comes all the way from London.
Oooh how exciting! I kinda regret not designing my own cover, I didn’t read the flyer that came with the issue announcing it. Do post once your own cover issue comes! =)
I was pretty sure that Hermès would release an ipad case, even if it’s an special order.

Very classy! As I work for an American IT company we used to say that a success of a new software or hardware are the applications developed thinking on them iPhone and iPad are the only one that get categories created to them. We used to have the phone-cases, computer-cases and sleeves. Now all the brands have in their catalogues: iPhone-cases and iPad cases..from Hermès like you just pointed out to…to everybody else..
I think it’s only Apple products that have spawned such no?
